A wall with graffiti attracts more graffiti. It’s counter intuitive to what we think but it’s the reality. When someone who is likely to graffiti sees a wall with someone else’s graffiti, they know that they can do it there. While we know that most business owners do not have the resources for professional graffiti removal there are methods that you can do yourself that will clean the walls and glass up, but please be careful of the warning we will give below.

How to Remove Graffiti on Glass

Because the glass is a very flat and non-porous surface it is possible to remove the paint with a razor blade. Scrape the razor blade behind the paint so that you can peel it off. The addition of a paint thinner can also make it easier to remove the paint.

Once completed, rinse off the window and it’s back to normal.

Things to be mindful of with Graffiti on Glass

Do not apply too much pressure to the window. You do not want it to break.

Be aware of the razor blade. If you scratch the window you cannot remove the scratch.

How to Remove Graffiti on Brick Walls

Brick walls are porous. This means that the paint can seep into the brick, making it much harder to remove thoroughly.

1. First you want to get a hard bristled brush, paint stripper, safety goggles and a mask.
2. Now you want to apply the paint stripper generously over the graffiti, starting at a top corner, working outward and down.
3. Wait the recommended time given by the paint stripper.
4. Now, starting at the same corner, use the stiff-bristled brush to scrap as much of the paint off as possible. Note: there is likely to be a lot of flakes and chunks coming off so wear your mask.
5. Wash the wall with hot or warm water. Use rags to do a thorough job of removing any left over pieces.
6. Reapply another layer of paint stripper to remove any stubborn areas of paint. Wait. Scrub and rinse again. (You may have to repeat this cycle a few times to thoroughly remove the graffiti).

What to Avoid

Do not use pressure washers to remove the paint from the brick walls. Pressure washers can quickly corrode the bricks, causing potential structural integrity issues in the wall. This can be very dangerous and / or very expensive.

How to Remove Graffiti from a Painted Wall

When your vandalised wall has been previously painted there is a danger of having the paint damaged in the removal process. Follow the tips above but be mindful of applying the paint stripper ONLY on the graffiti. This will be more time consuming but please know that there is a chance of effecting the paint underneath the graffiti if proper, professional attention is administered.

Fire damage can devastate your business. The majority of business fires are avoidable, or at the very least, can be minimised, but only if the proper precautions are taken. These simple steps will help significantly reduce the likelihood of fire devastation in your business. Our goal with this blog post is for your business in Parkersburg, Vienna or anywhere else in West Virginia, to not need us. Yes, our business is to help restore damage, but we do not wish that upon anyone. And if it can be avoided, we will strive to help you. Anyway here are the tips:

Remove ALL Fire Hazards

Yep, this sounds obvious, but it is surprising how easy it is for business owners and staff to "move it later". This is where problems may arise. This includes any combustibles, overloaded power outlets (a very common one) or even flammable items near windows (believe it or not, the "magnify glass effect" can happen.

Fire Extinguishing Equipment

Most companies have these, but where they fall down is with not having the right fire prevention systems in place. These are vital because you want your fire extinguisher and/or sprinkle system working when they're needed.

1. Replace the fire extinguisher annually
2. Have it mounted properly, highly visible and without any obstructions (this is another example of staff putting something in front of it and "they'll move it later")
3. Do not have any obstructions within 18 inches of the sprinklers.
4. Have a strict fire safety and fire equipment inspection every 6 months

Staff Training

Staff need to know what to do in fire emergencies. Where to go, how to evacuate, where the fire extinguishers are etc. Below is a checklist for you to use with the bare minimums of your staff training. These steps will ensure proper execution of tasks in the event of a fire, small or large.

1. New staff are taught about the fire safety measures within 48 hours of beginning.
2. All staff are re-trained or reminded of the safety measures every 6 months. This is a simple training that may only take as little as 30 minutes (only 1 hour per year!) but will potentially save you thousands or tens of thousands if fire strikes.
3. Weekly checking that there are no fire hazards or fire obstructions: this one is very important. Have someone spend 20-30 minutes at the beginning and end of the week checking. Make it their role. When your team is always checking, they are always conscious of fire safety during the remainder of the week (it's subconscious training that can save you a lot of money).

Other Important Steps for Your Business

• Always remove or cover exposed electrical wires
• If extension cords are not being used, disconnect them. These should only be temporary uses because of their danger of creating fires at the connections.
• Keep all items and "clutter" more than 36 inches away from electric panels
• No trash or clutter in hallways. This is for your staff safety as well. If evacuation is needed, a clear pathway can be the difference between life or ... worse. Dramatic? Yeah maybe, but your safety and the safety of your staff is primary.

There's an important saying, "When the times are good, we forget they can get bad. When the times are bad, we forget they can get good." Fire safety protocol and precautions are so important. Being Egged and How to Remove It from your Wood, Ritchie & Pleasants Counties Home or Business

Funny for Some, Annoying for You

It’s a fun thing for kids to do, but extremely annoying and inconvenient for you. When getting egged acting quick is important to avoid further absorption of the egg into your paint, wood or other materials. 

How to Remove the Egg

Use a garden hose and/or a combination of warm soapy water. This will break up the egg and toilet paper allowing them come off easier. Please be careful of using any power washers. Due to their power they can damage the paint of whatever you’re spraying. This will create a higher cost than necessary, and we don’t want that!

How to Remove the Toilet Paper

Be careful not to simply tug at the toilet paper. It may break and make the cleaning up experience more annoying than it needs to be.

An option would be to use a leaf blower or long stick (or even a pool cleaner handle) to get it down.
